RETENTION

The retention phase is just as important as wearing braces

After the completion of fixed orthodontic treatment phase followed by retention, which is just as important as wearing braces (active treatment phase). Patients receive a retention device that can be fixed or mobile, and whose task is to keep your teeth and jaws into a new, corrected position. Mobile (essix) retainer is a transparent splint for upper and lower jaw which carries one or two months for 24 h, can be removed only for eating and drinking, and after that at least 6 months every night and every other night…

Fixed retainer is wired connection usually lower (3-3) or less of the above (2-2) of the front teeth, which prevents them from slipping when you do not wear your mobile retainer. The upper fixed retainer is placed only if you do not mind the contact of the upper and lower teeth. Best is a combination where you have mobile and fixed retainer because teeth are living tissue and moving the whole of life, especially the first 10 to 12 months after removing appliances, as necessary to the bone tissue around the teeth mineralized and that the tooth used to the new source forces that it can not move – lips, cheeks, tongue. If you do not wear your retainer after removing the braces, we can not guarantee the stability of the results. After removing the camera, you take care of your teeth and results of therapy and if you fail to follow the instructions on the retention, there is a likelihood of recurrence!
